Facts About Labradorite
Labradorite is named after its location of discovery in Labrador, Canada. It is a feldspar mineral that is most often found in igneous rocks. Gem-quality labradorite exhibits brilliant iridescence which is called labradorescence. This is the reason why it is also called Rainbow Moonstone and Stone of Luck.
Labradorescence happens when light enters the stone, strikes a twinning surface and then reflects from it. The colour on the stone that is seen by us is indeed the colour of light reflected which can move as the stone is rotated. We can see the various quality, hues, and brilliance labradorescence on the same stone when the light is reflected by different twinning parts in the stone.
Our Labradorite is mined in Madagascar, the gemstone from this region is famous for having grey to black labradorite with superb labradorescence.
